Packaging Station Balance Ratio Calculator

Estimate rate balance between the slowest and fastest stations in a series packaging line. Formula: balance ratio = slowest good-output rate / fastest good-output rate. Both rates must use the same product basis and time unit; 100% means rates match.

Example values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with values for your product, package, equipment, and operating conditions.

Inputs

Fastest and slowest station rates

Range: at least 0 units/min

Enter the lowest sustained good-output rate among stations, in the same product unit and time basis as the fastest rate.

Range: at least 0 units/min

Enter the highest sustained good-output rate among stations on the same product/package basis. It must be greater than zero and at least as high as the slowest rate.

Result

Valid
Slowest-to-fastest balance ratio
0.80
Rate shortfall as share of fastest station
0.20
Fastest-to-slowest rate spread
18.00 units/min
Comparison scope
Balance ratio compares only the entered slowest and fastest sustained good-output rates on a matching product and time basis. It is not whole-line utilization, OEE, actual throughput, or a prescribed target; intermediate stations, downtime, buffers, and product mix are not modeled.
