Packaging Finished Product Scrap Cost Calculator

Estimate accumulated included variable cost tied to rejected finished packages. Formula: variable cost per scrapped package = product cost + packaging-material cost + conversion cost per package; total = whole rejected finished-package count × variable cost per package. Enter non-overlapping per-package costs for one product/cost boundary. This does not calculate empty-container-only loss, fixed overhead, or salvage recovery.

Example values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with values for your product, package, equipment, and operating conditions.

Inputs

Scrap quantity and unit cost components

Range: at least 0 count

Enter the whole number of rejected finished packages, not empty containers lost before filling. Zero is allowed.

Range: at least 0 USD/package

Enter variable product cost contained in one finished package, using the same cost boundary as the packaging and conversion amounts.

Range: at least 0 USD/package

Enter packaging-material cost per finished package. Exclude packaging costs already included elsewhere.

Range: at least 0 USD/package

Enter included variable labor/processing cost per finished package. Do not repeat amounts already included in product or packaging cost.

Result

Valid
Included variable cost per scrapped package (USD/package)
$3.2500/unit
Accumulated finished-product scrap cost (USD)
$325.00
Estimate limitations
Covers only rejected finished packages and the entered variable product, packaging, and conversion costs. It does not price empty containers lost before filling, fixed overhead, disposal, rework or salvage recovery, or downstream customer costs.
