Packaging Line Interruption Buffer Size Calculator

Estimate accumulation capacity to hold all upstream good output produced during a downstream stoppage. Formula: whole buffer units = ceiling(upstream good units per minute × interruption minutes). Assumes downstream consumption is zero during the stated interruption and the upstream station keeps running.

Example values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with values for your product, package, equipment, and operating conditions.

Inputs

Upstream production and stoppage

Range: at least 0 units/min

Enter sustained good units per minute from the upstream station while the downstream station is stopped.

Range: at least 0 min

Enter stoppage duration in minutes. Assumes upstream production continues and downstream consumes no units during this time.

Result

Valid
Whole-unit buffer capacity required
500 units
Unrounded output accumulated during stoppage
500.000 units
Whole-unit rounding allowance
0.000 units
Buffer estimate limitations
This is a theoretical accumulation requirement for the stated interruption. Actual usable buffer capacity depends on conveyor geometry, accumulation controls, package spacing, and operating policy; it does not size an accumulator or model upstream/downstream recovery.
