Packaging Downtime Cost Calculator

Estimate good units not produced and their contribution value during unrecovered packaging-line downtime. Formula: estimated lost good units = downtime minutes × sustained good units per minute; estimated lost contribution = units × contribution per unit. Downtime and rate must use the same line, product/package, and production basis. Assumes production is not recovered later; excludes fixed overhead, penalties, and recovery labor unless represented in the entered contribution value. This is an operational estimate, not an accounting loss determination.

Example values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with values for your product, package, equipment, and operating conditions.

Inputs

Downtime and production value

Range: at least 0 min

Enter the interruption time that is not recovered later in the planning window.

Range: at least 0 units/min

Use a sustained good-unit rate for the same line, product/package, and time basis as the downtime input.

Range: at least 0 USD/good unit

Enter contribution value per good unit, not retail revenue, unless revenue is the intended measure. Use a consistent accounting basis; fixed overhead, penalties, and recovery labor are excluded unless included here.

Result

Estimated contribution loss
$3,375.00
Estimated unrecovered good units
2,700.00 units
Estimate basis and exclusions
Estimates unrecovered good output and its contribution value using the entered rate and contribution basis. It assumes production is not recovered later and does not include employee overtime hours/pay, fixed overhead, penalties, recovery labor, or schedule approval unless represented in the entered contribution value. This is not an accounting loss or labor-law determination.
