Cylindrical Container Fill Capacity Calculator

Estimate liquid volume in a straight cylindrical section from internal diameter and liquid fill height, both in inches. Formula: volume = π × inside diameter² / 4 × fill height. Converts cubic inches to U.S. gallons using 231 in³/gal and to U.S. fluid ounces using 128 fl oz/gal. Use internal dimensions and exclude headspace; this ideal-cylinder estimate excludes necks, shoulders, tapers, and internal features.

Example values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with values for your product, package, equipment, and operating conditions.

Inputs

Internal diameter and fill height

Range: at least 0 in

Enter the internal diameter in inches for the straight cylindrical section. Do not use outside diameter or a shoulder/neck dimension.

Range: at least 0 in

Enter the selected liquid height in inches within the straight cylindrical section. Keep it at or below the actual straight-section limit and leave required headspace; the calculator has no container overall-height input. Zero fill height returns zero volume.

Result

Estimate limitations
Ideal straight-cylinder geometry only. The selected fill height must stay within the measured straight section and leave required headspace. Neck, shoulder, taper, wall thickness, deformation, and package tolerances are excluded. Displayed decimals are arithmetic results, not a statement of dimensional accuracy or fill tolerance. This does not determine labeled net contents or certify package capacity. U.S. fluid ounces measure volume, not ounces by weight.
